Join us for a welcome dinner tonight as you learn more about the adventures that await you in cowboy country. Meals D Day 2 – Raft Down the Snake River Explore postcard-perfect sights in the park, including sparkling Jenny Lake, and get set for a rafting adventure on the scenic Snake River today; your guide will introduce you to the flora and fauna of this wildlife-rich ecosystem, helping you spot the animals who make their homes here, including beaver, eagles, elk and even moose. Spend time in the historic town of Jackson and enjoy dinner on your own. Meals BL Day 3 – Stay Inside Yellowstone National Park Journey to Yellowstone National Park today where your inside-the-park accommodations are just steps away from Old Faithful Geyser – which shoots its plume of steam skyward just about every hour! Join your Tauck Director for sightseeing that features some of the most famous geologic wonders of Yellowstone. You will have the unique opportunity on Cowboy Country to volunteer with park experts on a service project, made possible by Tauck’s long-standing relationship with America’s national parks. Tauck received a special Presidential Award for this on-tour volunteer program in the summer of 2006. Meals BD Day 4 – Explore America’s Oldest National Park You’ll start your day with local experts who shed some light on the park’s abundant wildlife. Yellowstone National Park protects five threatened or endangered species, including the gray wolf, the whooping crane, the lynx, the bald eagle and the grizzly bear. This afternoon, go exploring with a local expert who offers special insights about the “restless” geology of the park, from its legendary trout streams and thundering waterfalls to its gurgling mud pots and volcanic calderas. With 10,000 hot springs, two-thirds of all geysers in the world, and lush forests, Yellowstone National Park inspires awe at every turn – and it is a photographer’s paradise. Meals BLD Day 5 – Visit Cody, “Rodeo Capital of the World” Step back in time to the days of the Old West in historic Cody, founded by frontiersman “Buffalo” Bill Cody in 1896, the best known spokesman for the New West. Learn more about his quest to lure settlers to the western frontier at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, home to the world’s largest collection of artifacts depicting the culture, history and art of the American West. Admission to his famous Wild West Show in the late 1800s was only 10 cents for children and 25 cents for adults! Stunts will be performed at the rodeo tonight by steer wrestlers, wild buckin’ broncos, barrel riders and rodeo clowns – they put on a memorable show! Meals BD Day 6 – Spend a Night at a Western Ranch Today’s drive through Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains includes some pretty amazing sights – watch for cowboys at work in the high altitude grasslands, a spectacular waterfall, all kinds of wildflowers, and deep canyons that make you see how this area was a real part of the “wild west.” Your destination today is The Ranch at Ucross, where you can get a taste of cowboy life during an overnight stay. The ranch offers many activities for family fun – take a leisurely horseback ride; catch a big Brown or Rainbow in Piney Creek or the ranch’s stocked trout pond; relax by the heated pool; pitch horseshoes; or hunt for frogs by the pond. A campfire in the evening caps a perfect day. Meals BLD Day 7 – See Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore You’ll see some of the world’s largest sculptures today, nestled in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Nothing compares to seeing in person the four famous presidential faces carved into rock –George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. You’ll learn all about how 400 workers spent 10 years creating the dream of sculptor Gutzon Borglum. The journey comes to an end this evening with a farewell dinner.
