Day 2 - Washington DC sightseeing & at leisure
This morning we tour Washington DC with a local guide viewing thecity''s most famous landmarks, including the White House, theWashington Monument and the Mall. We stop at the World War II andLincoln Memorials. Then we visit Arlington National Cemetery andlearn about the final resting place of the nation''s heroes on anarrated tour onboard a Tourmobile. The remainder of the day is atleisure to explore this fascinating city. (Full breakfast)
Day 3 - Washington DC - Mount Vernon - Yorktown - Williamsburg (2nights)
Today we visit the home of George Washington, Mount Vernon, whichoverlooks the Potomac River. Later, Revolutionary War history comesalive as we visit the Yorktown Victory Center. Then we step furtherback into America''s British Colonial period, arriving inWilliamsburg for a two-night stay. This evening we enjoy aHighlight Dinner featuring a traditional colonial menu. Day 4 - Jamestown & Colonial Williamsburg sightseeing
Today we are joined by a local guide and explore Jamestown, home ofthe first permanent English settlement in America, founded in 1607by colonists seeking a new beginning in the New World. We spend theremainder of the day absorbing the sights and sounds of ColonialWilliamsburg. We step back into the 18th century as we stroll alongDuke of Gloucester Street where the townspeople, adorned in periodcostume, go about their daily lives in faithfully restored shops,taverns and homes. A variety of walking tours, arts performances,political speeches, trades demonstrations, military exercises, fifeand drum parades and more is available daily. (Full breakfast)
Day 5 - Williamsburg - Monticello - Shenandoah National Park
Today our Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure! We travel toRichmond, once the capital of the Confederacy. Here a local guidetakes us on a visit to St. John''s Church, a National HistoricLandmark, where Patrick Henry delivered his famous Give Me Libertyor Give Me Death speech. From here we continue into the rollinghills of Virginia''s countryside to Monticello, for a guided tour ofthe beautiful home of President Thomas Jefferson. This afternoon weenter Shenandoah National Park and take Skyline Drive along thecrest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, through the woods and paststunning views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west or the rollingPiedmont region to the east. Deer, black bear, wild turkey, and ahost of other woodland animals call Shenandoah home and can beeasily spotted. (Full breakfast / Dinner) Hotel: Big Meadows Lodge
Day 6 - Shenandoah - Gettysburg
This morning we step back into the past as we see the quaint andhistoric community of Harpers Ferry, at the confluence of thePotomac and Shenandoah Rivers. This was the site of John Brown''sfamous raid, which helped ignite the flames of the Civil War. Nextwe reach the town of Gettysburg and visit the nearby farm ofPresident Dwight D. Eisenhower which served as a weekend retreatand a meeting place for world leaders. (Full breakfast) Hotel: Wyndham Gettysburg
Day 7 - Gettysburg - Lancaster County - Philadelphia
This morning we join an expert battlefield guide for a visit to theGettysburg National Military Park, the site of three days offerocious fighting that marked an important turning point in theCivil War and changed the course of American history forever. Thisis the place where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous GettysburgAddress which helped mend a torn nation. We will have time to visitthe recently-opened and awe-inspiring $135-million Museum andVisitor Center. Then we''re off to Lancaster County in the heart ofPennsylvania Dutch Country, the land of the Amish. We explore therich farmlands and learn more about these people who eschew modernlife. Next we arrive in Philadelphia. This evening we enjoy aFarewell Dinner. (Full breakfast / Farewell dinner)Hotel: Holiday Inn Historic District
Day 8 - Philadelphia - Depart Washington DC
After breakfast, we enjoy an orientation tour of Philadelphia. Wevisit the awardwinning National Constitution Center, the first evermuseum dedicated to the US Constitution. Next we exploreIndependence National Historical Park, home of the Liberty Bell andIndependence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signedin 1776. Later we return to Washington DC, where a complimentarytransfer is provided to Dulles International and Ronald ReaganNational Airports and to the tour hotel in Washington DC forpassengers extending their stay (Full breakfast)Please do not schedule flights before 5:30pm from DullesInternational or 6:30pm from Ronald Reagan National Airports.
